Lydia Denworth

Lydia Denworth is a Brooklyn-based writer who explores the science of how we think, learn and connect. She is a contributing editor for Scientific American and writes the “Brain Waves” blog for Psychology Today. Her work has appeared in The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Newsweek, Vogue and many other publications.

Lydia is the author of two books of popular science and is at work on a third. Her most recent book, “I Can Hear You Whisper: An Intimate Journey through the Science of Sound and Language,” recounts her investigation of the brain, deafness and language after she learned that her son couldn’t hear. Her previous book, “Toxic Truth: A Scientist, A Doctor and the Battle over Lead,” tells the story of two men who were among the first to question the wisdom of filling the world with a harmful metal. Lydia’s newest book is about the biology and evolution of friendship. It will be published by W.W. Norton in 2019 and is supported by the Sloan Foundation.
