Amy Zakar ’99

Amy is a musician and teacher based in Princeton. She specializes in the style of Klezmer, which originated in Eastern Europe as the secular music of the Yiddish-speaking Jewish population and is now an internationally enjoyed World Music. The violin melodies range from haunting and soulful to upbeat and joyous.

Amy performs, composes and records with the group The Klez Dispensers, which began as a student group at Princeton in 1998 and is now celebrating its 20th anniversary, and other ensembles Princeton Country Dancers and Frances Catherine Band. The selections you will hear at the She Roars Showcase are a medley of traditional folk songs that would be played at a wedding, dance or other life celebration.
