Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri ’01

Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri is an Indian-Canadian director, photographer, branding expert and social justice advocate. She is known for moving millions to action with her “iconic images and visionary storytelling” (Huffington Post). Her work has won over 25 awards, including Best Picture at the CNN Expose Awards 2018 and two Gold Lions at Cannes Festival of Creativity, and been shown in 30 museums and galleries including The Brooklyn Museum, Centre Pompidou Paris, The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, The Museum of the Fashion Institute, The Rubin Museum, The Australian Center for the Moving Image, SHOWStudio London, and the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institute, Washington DC. The Lincoln Center presented her major exhibition “ICONS” and described her work as “Dynamic…at the crossroads of pop culture and critical acclaim.”

Raised volunteering with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, Indrani became an international model, and at the age of 19, co-founded Shakti Empowerment Education Foundation (SEEschool.org) for women and children in India. “Wielding her visionary work like a weapon, Indrani is using her art and resources for social justice and change” (Soma Magazine) working with the United Nations as co-founder of SDG Icons, as a Fellow at Women’s Entrepreneurship Day, and former Special Advisor to UNGMDF and World Forums. Indrani is frequently invited to speak at prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Carnegie Hall and the United Nations.

While studying Anthropology at Princeton University, her photography was discovered by David Bowie and Iman, who commissioned her first album art. Indrani was instrumental in launching Beyonce’s superstar career, creating her first solo album cover and her first campaigns for L’Oreal and Pepsi. She has collaborated with Lady Gaga, Beyonce, David Bowie, Kate Winslet, Jennifer Lopez, Kanye West, Jay-Z and Kim Kardashian on their most important projects. Indrani has been interviewed on HBO, BBC, CNN, Showbiz Tonight, Access Hollywood, Inside Edition, E! News, Larry King Live, and she was the star and co-producer of the Bravo reality series Double Exposure. Her work has been published in 25 books and in Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and The New York Times and can be viewed at www.indrani.com.

Women in the Arts Showcase

Please join us for the Opening Reception and Women in the Arts Showcase to hear from a select group of alumni artists and student groups, and participate in interactive/collaborative creative activities. The Opening Reception will kick off in the New South tent at 6:30 p.m., followed by various performances, displays, and activities in the tent and the Lewis Arts complex beginning at 7:30 p.m. There will also be work by visual artists on display throughout the weekend at Maclean House.
