Tori Velkoff’s career at the Census Bureau spans over 25 years. As a senior executive, she has led several divisions core to the Census Bureau’s mission. Currently, Tori directs the American Community Survey. The American Community Survey is the principal source of social, demographic, economic, and housing information for the nation, states, counties, cities, and towns.
Previously, Tori directed the Census Bureau’s research on income, poverty, health insurance, same-sex relationships, and the supplemental poverty measure. She also directed research on race and Hispanic origin, population estimates and projections for the United States, and international assistance work. Tori’s research has focused on the impact of aging worldwide, gender issues, and the collection, analysis, and dissemination of demographic data. Tori has a Ph.D. in Sociology and Demography from Princeton University.
