Majka Burhardt is an author, professional climber, filmmaker and conservation entrepreneur. She has spent over two decades creating unusual connections between adventure, risk and impact. She is the founder and executive director of Legado, where she works to protect the world’s most threatened mountain ecosystems by working hand in hand with the people who call them home. Legado originated during a pioneering climbing and conservation research expedition to Mozambique. Burhardt is also the author of “Coffee Story: Ethiopia and Vertical Ethiopia: Climbing Toward Possibility in the Horn of Africa” and executive producer of films “Waypoint Namibia” and “Namuli.” She has a MFA in Creative Writing from the Warren Wilson Program for Writers and received her BA in Anthropology from Princeton. She is a professional climber sponsored by top brands such as Patagonia, Petzl and Julbo. She lives in the New Hampshire’s White Mountains with her husband and two-year old twins.
