After earning her Ph.D. in English from Princeton, Sue May worked in the worlds of journalism, new media and market research before turning her experiences into a career guide for graduate students interested in exploring the world outside academia. Co-authored with classmate Maggie Debelius *00, “So What Are You Going to Do with That?: Finding Careers Outside Academia” has been in print since 2001 and is currently in its third edition with University of Chicago Press. Spending so much time listening to the career narratives of a wide range of talented people led Sue to the world of executive search. Today, she is a partner with Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates, a firm specializing in the recruitment and placement of higher education leaders. She works closely with both candidates and employers, helping both sides successfully navigate the hiring process from initial interview to final negotiation. She has successfully placed more than 60+ presidents, vice presidents, deans and directors at colleges and universities across the country during her career.
