Share Your Video

Introduction

As part of the She Roars Conference, October 4-6, 2018, we invite all alumnae to submit a short video “vlog” to reflect on your time at Princeton and beyond. These videos are meant to share your unique stories about your Princeton experience and how your education and time spent on campus have influenced you, both personally in your life and/or in your career. We hope to hear from many voices and for the result to be uplifting and inclusive of all experiences. The submitted videos will be incorporated into a conference video that will be shown at She Roars and beyond. While we may not be able to include all submissions into the conference video, they will be publicly available here.*

To get started with your submission, please review the directions before reading the sample questions that we have provided as prompts for your vlog submission. For inspiration, please review the gallery where your video will be displayed. When you are ready to upload your video, please fill in the form as completely as possible and remember to review the recording release. Additionally, please upload a high-resolution photo of yourself (landscape orientation) for inclusion in another video.

* We reserve the right to not include or post any submissions that contain profanity or inappropriate language and/or comments; that contain defamatory, harassing, or otherwise unlawful content; or that are otherwise inconsistent with the objectives of the project.

Directions

While vlogs are often created alone, it may be fun to invite a classmate or two to participate with you. Have fun with the video! Remember to begin by stating your name, graduation year, major/degree, and place of residence.

To get started:

  1. Check that the “video settings” on your phone are set to 1080 resolution.
  2. Find a quiet area with an interesting, but not overly busy background. Avoid positioning yourself and your classmates in front of a window or in front of a blank wall. Make sure there is good lighting on your face and that you are in a relatively quiet space. We want to hear you.
  3. Using a tripod or other stable surface, place the phone horizontally (landscape). Do not record yourself with a portrait setting. Find a way to position the phone securely, so it won’t slip or move during the video, such as against your open laptop.
  4. Make a short test video to ensure lighting and sound are good and that your voice is clear before creating the final version.
  5. To begin: state your name, graduation year, major/degree, place of residence. Please pick a few questions, or as many as you’d like. If possible, reference the question when answering it, e.g. “One of my favorite memories…”
  6. Try to keep your video no more than three minutes long and please answer the first question.

Questions

Here are a few suggested questions to use as prompts in submitting your vlog. Feel free to answer as many or as few as you’d like, keeping your submission to no more than 3 minutes. Please make sure you answer the first question. The rest is up to you.

  1. Share three phrases/words that say who you are. Begin with the phrase “I am…” For instance, “I am a middle school math teacher, a mother, a believer in the power of women.”
  2. What did it mean for you to be a woman at Princeton?
  3. What did your Princeton education do for you? Where did it take you? Was there a turning point in your Princeton experience?
  4. Which classes and/or professors had the most influence on you?
  5. What do you wish you could go back and tell your freshman/first-year grad self?
  6. Can you offer some advice to today’s women undergrads/grad students (e.g. lessons learned)?
  7. In what ways is Princeton still important to you today?
  8. Back in my day at Princeton…or If I hadn’t gone to Princeton…
  9. What is your favorite Princeton memory?
  10. What makes Princeton women special? How can Princeton women tap into the power of coming together to effect change?
